What the file shows

Marshall Wantland received Mercer's Colony certificate No. 185 for 640 acres at Corsicana in April 1850. Deputy Surveyor Wm. L. Browning surveyed the tract about 5 3/4 miles west of town (S 84 W) in October 1855; the papers were filed in January 1856 and the patent issued in Wantland's name in June 1856, apparently forwarded to A. Beaton.
