What the file shows
George V. Petty received a 640-acre Mercer's Colony certificate at Corsicana on 18 April 1850. David R. Mitchell surveyed half of it, 320 acres on the East fork of Briar Creek, about six miles west of Corsicana in June 1850, and the patent issued to Petty on 29 July 1854.

Entitles George V. Petty to 640 acres within the colony of Charles Fenton Mercer and his Associates, he having taken the oath and made proof of his citizenship; he may locate, transfer or donate it.

- Only 320 of Petty's 640 acres were located here; the jacket sends the reader to file 2205 for the balance.
- In Mitchell's certificate of 4 August 1850 the month of the survey is blotted and rewritten as 'June'.
- Jacket also mentions 'Cert Rept'd H. M. Winkler for' which may indicate someone else reported the certificate (?).
- Index says patent 29 Jul 1854 No. 425 Vol 11; agrees with the jacket.
