The towns
The Blackland Prairie runs from the Red River to San Antonio, and these towns sit on it. The ground is not all the same: deep black clay at Frost and Barry, sandy loam five miles away at Blooming Grove. What these places have in common is not the soil. The railroad came through, and the settlements already here walked to it. Crossroads moved to Frost, Spring Hill to Dawson, Wadeville to Kerens, and Blooming Grove moved itself a mile north to reach the track. Barry followed in 1888. That is what put these towns where they are.
