What the file shows
Hugh McKenzie received a duplicate Republic of Texas bounty warrant for 320 acres for three months' army service in 1836. David R. Mitchell surveyed it on Briar Creek, a branch of Pecan Creek, in June 1846, and after the warrant was approved in April 1851 the patent issued to McKenzie on 12 April 1851.

Hugh McKenzie served faithfully and honorably in the Army of the Republic of Texas for three months, from 1 March 1836 until 1 June 1836, and received an honorable discharge; entitled to 320 acres of bounty land. 'Duplicate' is written along the margin.

- The surveyor made the survey on 30 June 1846 but the field notes were not examined and recorded until 27 July 1848, and the warrant was approved by the Adjutant General only on 11 April 1851, the day before the patent.
- The warrant is marked 'Duplicate'; the original warrant is not in the file.
- Hugh McKenzie's service was only three months in 1836, but he received a full 320 acres.
- Index says patent 12 Apr 1851 No. 632 Vol 5; agrees with the jacket.
