What the file shows
Wilson J. Hutchison received Mercer's Colony certificate No. 1046 for 320 acres on 6 June 1850 and sold it two days later to Thomas C. White for $50. D. R. Mitchell surveyed the tract on Briar Creek in October 1850, and the patent, No. 309, Vol. 8, issued to White as assignee on 13 March 1852.

Entitles Wilson J. Hutchison to 320 acres within the limits of the colony of Charles Fenton Mercer and his Associates, he having taken the oath and made the proof of citizenship required by law

The patent
13 Mar 1852, No. 309, Vol. 8, to Thomas C. White, assignee, delivered to not stated (faint pencil 'Mitchell'(?) under the patent number on the jacket).
Also in the file
- Hutchison signed by his mark and sold his certificate two days after it issued; the transfer was proved before county clerk R. W. White, and a chain carrier on the survey is written 'R. N. White' - possibly the same man.
- The surveyor appears as 'D. R. Mitchell, Deputy Surveyor for Navarro County' although Navarro was in the Robertson Land District.
- Both the examination certificate and the wrapper read Book I page 257.
- The same date, 12 October 1850, is repeated in both certificates of the surveyor; the examination is not until 13 February 1851.
