What the file shows

Daniel B. Hartzell proved his citizenship before the Navarro District Court in June 1854 and was granted Mercer's Colony certificate No. 16 for 320 acres. Deputy surveyor Wm. L. Browning located it on Rush Creek in February 1855, and the patent issued on 20 June 1855.

Mercer's Colony certificate (3rd class), No. 16, 320 acres, District Court of Navarro County, John H. Reagan, Presiding Judge; attested by James M. Riggs, Clerk, Navarro County, Texas, 1854-06-07 (proof taken 5 June 1854, Spring Term).

Having taken the oath and made the proof required by law of his citizenship, the court adjudged him entitled to a certificate for 320 acres to be located on vacant land within the Colony of Charles Fenton Mercer and his associates
