What the file shows
Benjamin Bragg received Mercer's Colony certificate No. 262 for 320 acres on 19 April 1850 and sold it for $25 on 23 May 1851 to R. N. White, the Navarro County Clerk, who took the acknowledgement himself. Deputy surveyor Wm. L. Browning surveyed 320 acres on Briar Creek on 20 April 1853, and the patent issued to White as assignee on 9 August 1854.

Printed form: Benjamin Bragg entitled to 320 acres to be located on vacant land within the colony of Charles Fenton Mercer and his Associates, having taken the oath and made the proof required by law of his citizenship; he may locate, transfer or donate it.
Changes of hand
- 23 May 1851Benjamin Bragg, of Navarro County → R. N. White, $25, Corsicana, Navarro County. Sells the whole 320-acre headright certificate No. 262 and authorizes the Commissioner of the General Land Office to issue the patent in White's name; filed GLO 24 Aug 1853.

9 Aug 1854, No. 446, Vol. 11, to R. N. White, assignee, delivered to not stated.

- The transfer was acknowledged before R. N. White himself as County Court Clerk, i.e. the purchaser took the acknowledgement; Chief Justice Presley Donaldson certified Bragg's signature separately two years later (7 July 1853), just before the papers were filed.
- The survey was made 20 April 1853, nearly two years after Bragg sold the certificate, but in Bragg's name.
- Certificate date is 19 April 1850 in the certificate and transfer but 17 April 1850 in the field notes.
- Bragg paid or was paid only $25 for a 320-acre certificate.
- The jacket crosses out No. 466 and writes No. 446, Vol. 11, for the patent number.
- Index says patent 9 Aug 1854, No. 446, Vol. 11, 320 acres, patentee R N White, which agrees with the jacket.
