What the file shows
Jonas DeArman held a 640-acre Mercer's Colony certificate issued at Buffalo in April 1850. Deputy surveyor Wm. L. Browning laid off two 320-acre tracts for him near Corsicana, in November 1850 and January 1851. The first was patented in March 1854; the second conflicted with other surveys and was cancelled, then re-run on the ground by county surveyor A. S. Howren in June 1874 as 319.6 acres and patented in July 1874.

Printed certificate entitling Jonas DeArman, having taken the oath and made proof of his citizenship, to 640 acres within the colony of Charles Fenton Mercer and his Associates; may locate, transfer or donate it. The 640 is stamped and has a pen figure beside it.

Also in the file
- One 640-acre colony certificate was used for two 320-acre surveys, patented 20 years apart.
- The second survey (Jan 1851) conflicted with a survey patented to S. B. Roman(?) and one marked E. Dickson, and was cancelled by amended field notes; the corrected 319.6-acre field notes of 1874 were patented as Abst. 212.
- The certificate is issued in Henderson County but the wrapper and survey were made in Navarro.
- Jacket lists the certificate as 3rd class Robertson, but the document itself is a Mercer's Colony certificate.
- Index matches: 1854 patent No. 55 Vol. 10 (320 acres); 1874 patent No. 157 Vol. 42 (319.60 acres).
- Browning's note on the certificate back puts the first 320-acre survey on '20th(?) November 1850', against 4 November in the field notes.
