Jester

Navarro County, Texas

Eleven miles southwest of Corsicana on the St. Louis and Southwestern, Jester began as a stop called Switch in the 1880s and took its new name in 1899, for George Taylor Jester, the Corsicana man who was lieutenant governor. Its school enrolled forty-seven students by 1906; the post office closed in 1909, reopened in 1923 and closed again after 1930. About ten people were left by the mid-1930s, the store and church closed after the war, the school consolidated into Purdon's, and it was off the highway maps by the 1960s.
