Tuckertown

Navarro County, Texas

A boomtown of the Powell oil field, laid out in 1923 by Percy T. Fullwood and Harry L. Tucker and home to about 3,000 people within months, living mostly in tents. Two fires hit it, in October 1923 and February 1924. The field finished drilling that November, and by 1931 most of Tuckertown had been torn down. The Powell field produced roughly 186 million barrels of oil before the ground went back to pasture.
