Streetman

Navarro County, Texas

Streetman straddles the Navarro-Freestone county line, laid out in 1905 when the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway came through; it took over the nearby community of Cade's post office that same year and was named for Sam Streetman of Houston, the railroad's own surveyor. It incorporated in 1914 at about 600 people, held above 500 again in 1931, and ran its own newspaper from 1912; the school, which started in a blacksmith shop in 1907, consolidated into Fairfield's system in the late 1940s.
