Kelm

Navarro County, Texas

Three miles west of Emhouse, Kelm was founded in 1854 by T. R. Kelm and grew into a real town, with two churches, a grocery, a cotton gin and a general store serving about four hundred people by 1896; its school opened in the early 1890s and its post office in 1894. In 1907 the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway bypassed it by two miles, building Emhouse instead, and Kelm's businesses and residents went with it. It was a ghost town by 1910. The site has also been recorded as Johnson's Gin, Prairie Home and Tinkle.
