Babylon
Navarro County, Texas
Founded around 1895 by formerly enslaved people, who built a church and named it, and the settlement, for the ancient city, a name with clear weight to its founders. A school followed by 1900; residents did their trading in Dawson, Purdon or Spring Hill. Both church and school closed, most people left after the Second World War, and by the early 1990s only a few scattered houses remained.
