About the department
Navarro County Emergency Services District No. 1 is building the department a new station at 805 NE 2nd Street, Kerens: a 60-by-80-foot metal building of 4,835 square feet, filed with the state to run from May to December 2026.
One of three departments the district contracts with for fire service, with the Powell department and 287 Richland-Chambers.
Funded in part by Navarro County Emergency Services District No. 1. Approved by voters on 6 November 2007, it covers the Kerens school district and levies a property tax for fire service. Its five commissioners are appointed by the county commissioners court.
